A price check is most useful when it answers a real question, not when it spits out a number you blindly follow. In the opening days of PoE1 3.29, POE currency and good gear can move in value almost by the hour. You'll see a rare pair of boots with life, movement speed and two resistances, then wonder whether it's a quick upgrade item or something worth keeping listed. Awakened PoE Trade helps narrow that down, but the result page still needs a human eye. Early listings are often thin, overpriced, or left behind by players who have already moved on.
How to Check Items Without Trapping Yourself
Loads of players make the same mistake: they tick every modifier on a rare and get three results back. It looks precise, but it usually isn't. Those three items may have been sitting there for ages. Start loose, then tighten the search only when you need to. It feels slower at first, though it saves you from pricing a decent drop like a museum piece nobody wants.
  • Pick the correct active 3.29 league before comparing anything
  • Search the base type and two key modifiers first
  • Check several listings instead of copying the cheapest one
  • Look at item level, links and open crafting space when they matter
Unique items need a slightly different approach. The name gives you the broad market, but the roll often decides whether yours is ordinary or worth a premium. Check the general supply first, then add the roll that actually changes how the item performs. The same goes for crafted rares. An open suffix can matter more than a small extra stat, especially if a buyer wants to finish the item themselves. If you're checking unfamiliar 3.29 content, take the result with a pinch of salt. Version 3.28.103 may still handle normal copied text well, yet new modifiers or altered item formats can need project-side updates. Linux players should also test a real item check, not just the settings overlay, because an open overlay doesn't prove copied item text is being read.
What matters most is sale speed. A high asking price with no whispers is just a hopeful sign over an item. If you want the item gone, list near active comparisons and adjust from there. If it has a hard-to-find mix of useful stats, leave room for someone who knows exactly why they need it. A player using cheap POE currency to finish early gear may gladly pay for a piece that fixes several problems at once. That's the bit a quick search can't fully measure: whether the item solves a problem people are having right now.
